Susan Urry, LPGA Teaching Professional

Inspired to play golf at any early age by her father, Susan Urry is a dedicated professional as well as a seasoned player. She played full time on the Futures Tour in the late 80’s and early 90’s, as well as the Players West Tour, the Central Florida Challenge, and the Sunshine Tour.

Joining the LPGA Teaching & Club Professional Division in 1991, Susan taught at Murray Parkway Golf Course in Salt Lake City (UT) for two years. In 1993, she became the Assistant Coach at Florida State University for men & women’s golf. In addition she completed her MS in sport psychology in 1999. That same year she affiliated herself with the VIP Golf Academy at sites in San Diego, Phoenix and Sedona (AZ).

Susan’s teaching philosophy has transformed over the years to include some of the philosophy from her mentor, the late Jerry Barber. Barber, a former PGA Champion and regular on the Senior PGA Tour, inspired her dedication to the game. She strives to teach individuals with different physical characteristics, different methods of analyzing information, and different levels and areas of experience. Susan maintains that the fundamentals must be presented in golf instruction, i.e. the grip, the position to the ball, and the movement and control of the club. She has found success in allowing some personal variance in these areas, depending on the individual.

Currently, she teaches individual students at VIP Golf Academy for 5-6 hours of instruction per day. These schools last 3-5 days, and include a 9-hole playing lesson each day.
