"Keep Your Head Still...Truth or Myth"
How many of you have heard that you must keep your head still to hit the golf ball? Well, if I could guess, about 90% of all golfers have had this thought instilled into our mind. However, to our surprise this is in fact one of the biggest myths in golf.
Let's take a moment to analyze the throwing motion of a baseball. As you move your arm back to throw, notice that the head and upper body moves backwards from the target. In comparison, this is the same feeling that we want in our backswing in golf. As we swing the club back, our head and upper body moves away from our target.
Once you get this feeling that your head can and must move (in good players the head moves 4-6 inches) your will free up your backswing and get in a much better position to make a more powerful and balanced thru-swing. Always remember though, your eyes must remain on the golf ball.
The more advanced player will be more aware of your spine angle tilting away from the target at the top of the backswing. With this in mind, here are two drills to help you feel the correct move in your backswing.
Remember, don't be afraid to move your head...and that's the truth!
