"Getting Out of the Sand with Charlie Chaplin"

I have been teaching the following sand play method for sometime now, getting laughs and faces of amazement. So if you’re ready for a sure-fire way to get out of a greenside bunker here we go.

Do you remember old Charlie Chaplain? Hopefully you do. He walked with his toes pointed out. Well you are about to use my "Chaplain" sand method!

1 - Stand like Charlie Chaplain and place your knees out over your toes.

2 - Play the ball in the middle of your stance.

3 - Line up right of your target.

4 - Take away the club outside the target line. At this point in your swing it is necessary that your knees remain out over your toes. This will keep you centered in your swing (no weight shift back).

5 - Begin the down swing and strike the sand about 1 to 2 inches behind the ball, swing through, allowing the sand to fly out of the bunker on the green. If the sand comes out so will the ball. (The sand moves the ball, the club does not strike the ball).

6 - If your knees remain over your toes, and the sand leaves the bunker, so will your ball.
