A
former PGA TOUR player, John Abendroth is no stranger to the game of
golf, in fact he holds the course record (non-competitive) at the Olympic Club in San
Francisco, CA set in 1985. He began playing golf in college as an NCAA All-American
at Weber State University in Ogden, UT. Graduating in 1974 with a BA in
Communications, he was inducted into the Weber State University Sports Hall of Fame in
1998.
John's teaching career was influenced by John Geertsen, Sr., mentor of Johnny Miller and famed as one of the "greatest teaching professionals of all time"; Ernest Jones, author of the book for beginners to low handicappers Swing the Clubhead; and Virgil Shreeve, a former teacher and TOUR player. John believes he is a "feel teacher, taking a holistic approach to swing, mental feel and work ethics."
John taught and owned The Golf Learning Center in San Mateo, CA from 1990 to 1996. He was the Director of Instruction at the Crystal Springs Golf Club in Burlingame, CA, co-founding the Break Through Golf Schools with Head Professional DeDe Prongos. As President of San Francisco Golf Services, John is involved in a variety of golf projects, including corporate outings and co-chairing the San Francisco Junior Golf Championships.
As a member of the California Golf Writers Association, John's is indeed an accomplished golf writer. He has written an instant lesson for Golf Digest, regularly appears in Golf Today, and for several years has written golf tips on the Internet. He is the host of "Hooked on Golf" a weekly Bay Area golf radio program on KNBR 680AM and co-host for "On Golf Fox Sports Bay Area" a weekly cable TV show.
John's rate for a forty-five minute individual lesson is $45, and for a one hour lesson
it is $90.
