Commissioned
as a Navy Nurse Corps Officer directly out of college, Denise Boutin
didn't start her golf career until 1989, after attending the San Diego Golf Academy in
Rancho Santa Fe (CA). While in the Navy, Denise was a champion player. From 1983 to 1985,
she was a three-time winner of the Women's Inter-Service Golf Championship, and the
All-Navy Women's Golf Championship. In 1985, she competed as an amateur in the Nabisco
Dinah Shore.
After becoming an assistant at Vista Valley Country Club in Vista (CA), Denise entered the PGA program in 1992, and joined the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division (T&CP) in 1993. During the next two years, Denise instructed for the Craft-Zavichas Golf School in Pueblo (CO) and the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. It was here she provided comprehensive instruction in all aspects of game of golf, teaching various age groups and skill levels. In 1994, Denise joined Swingmaster Golf in Englewood (CO), a state-of-the-art practice and learning facility.
As an instructor for the Girls in Golf program in Denver, Denise worked with girls ages 8 to 18 interested in joining others their age to learn to play golf. This program offered golfing opportunities to Urban Youths who otherwise would not be exposed to the game. She volunteered her time as an instructor for the LPGA Junior Girls Golf Tournament and conducted clinics for Cub Scout Merit Badge achievement. In 1996, Denise became the Head Professional at Parker Road Golf in Aurora (CO), and continued to donate her time to youth as the golf coach for the Arapahoe High School girls golf team.
Relocating to Pennsylvania, Denise became a teaching professional at the Somerton Springs Golf Schools in Feasterville. This lighted facility, with over 50 stations and an 18-hole executive course, provided instruction for approximately 40,000 lessons annually. Denise also is taught at Cedarbrook Country Club in Blue Bell (PA), a private club outside of Philadelphia. She is a certified Lange and Henry Griffitts Clubfitter.
Denise received her BS in Nursing from the University of Arizona, Tucson in 1977, and her Masters Degree in Art and Health Sciences Management from Webster University in St. Louis (MO) in 1988. Continuing her education, she attended LPGA/Nike Teaching Schools, PGA Business Schools, and a Henry Griffitts Sports Enhancement Seminar. Denise has attended LPGA and PGA workshops and seminars, and in 1998 participated in a Player's and Coaches Gathering by Chuck Hogan at the Raven Golf Club in Phoenix.
Becoming one of thirty-five instructors for the LPGA National Education Program, responsible for peer review for advancement of members to Class A/B certification, she is also an instructor for the nationally recognized LPGA Gillette Golf Clinics for Women and the LPGA Crayola Junior Golf Clinics. She currently serves the LPGA as the Northeast Section Secretary and the co-chairman of the LPGA Marathon Day.
