Bret James, PGA Golf Professional
Nicklaus/Flick Golf School – Scottsdale, Arizona

As a full time instructor, Bret James provides game improvement in the desert southwest for the world renowned Nicklaus/Flick Golf School, based on the fundamentals that guided Jack Nicklaus throughout his career.

Bret experience is vast. He was appointed the Director of Instruction of the first Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy at Manila Southwoods in Southeast Asia. He developed the teaching program, in addition to assisting in management, tournament and golf operations. At Manila Southwoods, Bret was instrumental in enrolling over 1,000 new students. He conducted golf schools that consisted of one, two and three day clinics, including video analysis. Manila Southwoods hosted the 1993 Asian Tour School, the 1994 Philippine Open, and the 1996 World Amateur Tour.

He was also Head Professional and Director of Golf Instruction at Bukit Darmo Country Club in Surabaya, Indonesia. Leaving Asia in 1996, Bret became Director of Golf at McDain Golf Center in Monroeville (PA), and moved to Beaverton (OR) to become Director of Golf at the Golden Bear Golf Center at Sunset. His training included one-to-one teaching, group instruction, terminology, video training, and faults and fixes.

Since 1997, Bret has been a full time staff instructor at the Nicklaus/Flick Golf School in Scottsdale (AZ). His expertise and experience provide him with the tools to meet the challenges of a rigorous teaching schedule. A PGA Class A member, Bret has received instruction from such notables as Jimmy Ballard, John Reddman, Jim Flick, Martin Hall and Senior Tour member Dick Rhyan. In November 1999, Bret appeared on the Golf Channel with Jim Flick and Mike Malaska focusing on the feel and rhythm of your putting.

Early in his career, Bret competed successfully on the mini tours and on the European Cup Challenge Tour. He was Captain of the N.C.A.A. Division I University of San Diego golf team, a medallist in the 1985 West Coast Athletic Conference, and All Conference in 1984-85.
