Katherine Marren, PGA
Teaching Professional
Pebble Beach Golf Academy - Pebble Beach, California
Introduced as a youngster to the game by her Dad, Katherine
Marren has played golf for over twenty-five years, but finds teaching the game
the most rewarding and fun.
Katherine played collegiate golf at North Carolina State University and was the 1986 Women's' District of Columbia Champion. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University where she earned her BA in political science. She spent eight years in South Florida, and was the first assistant and teaching professional at Gleneagles Country Club in Delray Beach, FL., prior to moving to the Monterey Peninsula of Northern California.
As a senior instructor and PGA Class A member, Katherine has been teaching golf for over ten years. She has worked and trained for the last six years, under Laird Small, the Director of Instruction for the Pebble Beach Golf Academy, and a Top 100 teacher as recognized by Golf Magazine. She herself was recognized in 1995, by the San Francisco Examiner, as one of the ten best golf instructors in the Bay Area. Katherine is a contributor to Golf for Women Magazine and contributing Editor to South Florida Golf Magazine. In 1999, she joined the inaugural list of GOLF FOR WOMEN Magazines "50 Top Teachers".
Conducting teacher training for the Pebble Beach Golf Academy, Katherine's teaching philosophy emphasizes health and fitness issues which influence the body and muscles during the swing. She will be a featured speaker at the Northern California PGA Teacher and Player Summit this coming April.
Katherine has created a number of flourishing junior golf programs, and enjoys volunteering her time to Junior golf. In 1996, she received a community service award from the AT&T Junior Golf Foundation for volunteering her time to teaching golf to members of the local Boys and Girls Club. This program was conceived by two active Monterey Peninsula volunteers and board members of the AT&T Junior Golf Association, and along with Katherine have created a program that has a "team spirit" for the kids and helps graduate them to regular participation in junior golf programs.
Katherine has volunteered her time for the past four years, coaching the very first girl's golf team on the Monterey Peninsula at Robert Louis Stevenson High School. For further information, or to schedule a lesson with Katherine Marren, call (831) 622-8650.
