Kathy Martin, LPGA Golf Professional
Riveridge Golf Course - Eugene, Oregon

A former twelve-year LPGA Tour player, Kathy Martin retired in 1984 to involve herself in the business world. Along with her sister, she was instrumental in producing and publishing the highly respected LPGA Media Guide.

Qualifying for the LPGA Tour in the early days required a competitor to be in the top 80% of the field in three out of four tournaments. Kathy was good enough to qualify from the outset. While a tour player she had three second place finishes, one at the 1976 Birmingham Classic, where she scored a thirty-six hole record 66-65-131, and another at the 1978 Wheeling Classic, scoring a record 13-under par which held up for five years. Kathy has continued to compete in regional competitions. She won the Portland City Women's Championship (Professional Division) in 1996, and placed third in the 1998 Eastside Women's Open in Seattle.

In 1994, Kathy became the head professional at The Golf Club in Albany (OR), before coming to Riveridge in 1996. Currently a Class A member of the LPGA Teaching & Club Professional Division, Kathy spends her days making sure people are having fun playing golf or learning new ways to improve their game. She believes that the game of golf is much easier than people realize, and that most players have more natural ability than they give themselves credit for. With great communication skills, and an easy style of teaching, Kathy can relate to everyone on their level of golf.

During the summer months, Kathy is in charge of all organization for the junior golf schools held at Riveridge. She, along with other outstanding instructors, help the kids learn to appreciate the game of golf. The classes are for kids ages 6 to 10 and 11 to 17. Each class runs from four to six hours per day, and last three to four days. The instruction consists of full swing, chipping, bunker shots, putting, etiquette, and rules. One of Kathy's most notable juniors includes Meredith Jones, who shot a 69 at Crooked Creek when she was only 13. Tess Snook is an up and coming junior from Churchill High School, as well as Melissa Kelm.

Kathy holds clinics for men and women through corporations and organizations in the local area. She teaches 3-day schools for women and private clinics. She is involved with a number of local high schools instructing their teams. She has an extensive background in club repair and is a certified Slazenger clubfitter, believing that everyone would play better if properly fit. Kathy brings with her a unique teaching style in which she is able to relate to golfers of all levels, due to her experiences and number of years spent on the LPGA Tour.
