George McNamaraA dedicated golf professional, George McNamara became the 50th member (out of 23,000) to become a PGA Master Professional in 1988. This prestigious award is bestowed upon a PGA Professional who has been an active member of the PGA of America for a minimum of twelve years (of which six must be as a head professional) and who has completed a detailed master thesis project on a specifically approved area of study relating to the profession of golf.  George's thesis, parts of which were published in Golf Shop Operations in 1989, was written on "How to Own and Operate a Driving Range and Miniature Golf Course."

George attends many teaching seminars, including each and every PGA Teaching Summit held every two years. This national event unites some of the finest teachers in the game, and George has been a guest contributor for the USA Today Hotline at this Summit. With an extensive teaching background, George has worked extensively with 1993 National PGA Teacher of the Year, Hank Haney, at his golf ranch in Plano, TX. George was chosen the 1989 Philadelphia Section PGA Golf Professional of the Year, and was selected the 1978, 1979 and 1983 PGA Section Merchandiser of the Year by Sports Illustrated.

George is the PPGA Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee, Chairman of the Computer Committee, and has served as Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-President of Section Affairs. Currently he is the President of the Philadelphia Section of the PGA.

His published golf tip "Head down...never", was featured in USA Today in 1998. He is the owner of Mac's Golf Center in Downingtown, PA, a public driving range and practice center. For thirteen years he was the Head Professional at the Downingtown Inn Resort, but since 1985 has been the Head Professional at Brandywine Country Club in Wilmington.
