Lee Miller, PGA Golf Professional
Monterey, California

Lee MillerBack in 1986, Lee Miller was perplexed. He and a group of his fellow PGA professional golfers were attending an open forum to learn more about golf equipment, and to Miller’s thinking, he came away with more questions than answers.

What he heard was a rehash of the hype turned out by the marketing departments of equipment manufacturers. But with his Ph.D. in engineering, he knew that what he heard just wasn’t grounded in scientific principles. He began working on the clubs of other professionals and they reported back that the clubs felt great.

Miller started developing a theory about the term "feel," but in true scientific fashion he set out to gather the data to test and fine-tune that theory. He was soon able to prove to his own satisfaction that the concept of "feel" was not just a nebulous term but something that could actually be quantified.

Throughout 1989, the touring pros kept asking Miller, "If you can take a club manufactured by someone else and squeeze all that extra performance out of it, why don’t you start manufacturing your own clubs." The idea grew, the design process started, and in mid 1990, Miller put his first prototypes into the hands of eager players. Those prototypes rapidly saw tournament action around the world.

Wedge designer Lee Miller, often referred to as the first "club-fitter" by such PGA Tour players as Bruce Devlin and Lee Trevino, has two MBA degrees and a Ph.D. in Engineering. He is a certified Fitness Trainer for the International Sports Science Association, and a Sports Performance Nutritionist. He possesses broad professional exposure in many aspects of business. Miller has been a golf facility designer and contractor for the private and public sector. Nicknamed as "Dr. Feel" by PGA Tour Player Charlie Sifford, Miller has fitted golf clubs for such notable professionals as Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Chi Chi Rodriguez.

The wedges became proven winners on the PGA, LPGA, Senior PGA, and BUY.com Tours, at the U.S. Amateur Championship, and with the 1991 Ryder Cup Teams. When the Darrell Survey checked which brands of equipment pro golfers used, they discovered these clubs were near the top for use in several tournaments.
