Patty Snyder, LPGA Teaching
Professional
Indian Creek Golf Course - Loomis, California
Former
LPGA Tour player, Patty Snyder, has found
a home as a teaching pro at Indian Creek. This is her life, helping the clientele at
the nine-hole, par-32 layout, whether its by offering some off-the-cuff advice,
giving a lesson or simply keeping the place running smoothly. She is a Class A
Member of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division.
Her students say shes great to work with, knows the basics really well, and is a great instructor. Patty is able to pick out things very quickly; shes very simple in her technique. "It all comes down to setup, grip and aim," states Patty. "I try to stress fundamentals but dont teach different players the same way. Theres a lot of similarities in my philosophy per student, but youve got to go with what their personality is, what their physical capabilities are, because we all have limitations, " she says. "I see more mental limitations than physical."
Patty worked at Ancil Hoffman Golf Course in Carmichael (CA) from 1983 to 1984 and then spent eleven years at Diamond Oaks Muni in Roseville (CA), before coming to Indian Creek in 1995. She teaches about the same number of men as women, but says men tend to be more impatient and have higher expectations. She feels that "staying at square one with your basic fundamentals and polishing those constantly, will make you as good as you want to be."
Even though Pattys focus has shifted to teaching, she still has a game. She has played in the LPGA Longs Drugs Challenge at Twelve Bridges in Lincoln (CA). "When it comes to Twelve Bridges," she says, "Im just fortunate enough to be able to still play decent."
Ask Patty about her days on the LPGA Tour, she didnt make enough money to meet expenses, never finished higher than 13th in her three years on tour, but loved playing with the likes of LPGA Hall of Fames Kathy Whitworth and Donna Caponi. Patty played the Tour in 1976, 1980-81 and feels it was a wonderful experience traveling and meeting people. She is truly thankful she was out there.
Patty also enjoyed playing in four U.S. Womens Opens, the last one in 1987. Growing up in Watsonville (CA) she now focuses on Indian Creek, where she enjoys the regulars, loves to teach and looks forward to putting on events such as the LPGA Indian Creek POW-WOW Pro-Am, which raises money for abused children and breast cancer.
